What a film! When I saw the trailer to this film, I thought I knew what it was about…I was wrong!
To me, this film looked like a generic, school girl going off the rails, girl learns life lessons, girl leads a better life, or something along this ilke, it goes far deeper than that with a plot that has you wondering from the beginning.
Synopsis
Set in a Yorkshire seaside town, we follow Laurie (Lauren Coe) who has just moved there, from Dublin, with her mother, Jean (Sadie Frost) it’s immediately apparent that Laurie and her mum don’t get on, and Laurie seems happiest at her running club, although she seems to be having some issues fitting in with some of the other members.
She notices an older man that keeps looking at her, and eventually the pair strike up a friendship, they mainly meet up at night, hence the title, Nocturnal (clever isn’t it?)

My Thoughts
My first thoughts that struck me, whilst watching this film, was the cinematography, it is beautiful, and although I find the beach at night to be such a magical place, even the night scenes in the town centre with all the twinkling lights made for an atmospheric background.
It’s a small cast, with 2 main actors, Lauren Coe and Cosmo Jarvis who were both absolutely superb throughout.
The story was presented in a real way, that made you love the 2 main characters even with their shortcomings.
The plot moves at a steady pace, with the couple getting to know each other and having fun, until the relationship takes a mysterious turn – leaving you questioning what the next move will be and if you’re anything like me – shouting at the screen for the characters to do the right thing ?
I have to admit, this is a film that will stay on your mind for a while – it’s a powerful film, written by Olivia Waring and Nathalie Biancheri, who also directed the film.
Make sure you watch it – Releases in the UK on Friday 18th September 2020.
Enjoy & thanks for reading!
