The genre of this book is not my usual, but something about the synopsis piqued my interest, with the setting spanning from the theatrical & fashion worlds of Paris in the 1930s to present day Sussex, UK I was as much interested in the era, as I was the story.

My Thoughts
This story is about a mysterious painting set in a background of Parisian glamour and 1930’s decor which I loved very much.
It is written beautifully with such lovely descriptions of the surroundings, that at times I felt like I was actually there.
The pace of the story is steady and some chapters are longer than others, but as you progress through the story the mystery of the purple shadow, the question of the “missing piece” and the story behind Sylvie (the lady in the painting) and her life bring up more questions, theories and mystery – it has an almost supernatural or magical feel about it all.
It is a gripping read and I found I read so much in one sitting, considering it’s not my usual genre of choice, I am happy to say I have found a new author and genre because of this book, so thank you Christopher Bowden and Rachel at Rachels Random Resources for introducing me to this title.
The Author
Christopher Bowden lives in south London. He is the author of six colour-themed novels, which have been praised variously by Andrew Marr, Julian Fellowes, Sir Derek Jacobi, and Shena Mackay.
