I’m going to be honest, I haven’t laughed so much in ages! This film is just what we need right now.
When I heard about this film, I thought, OK, it’s a Christmas movie with some romance and humour and why not? It’s been a crappy year, we could all do with some early festive cheer.
But I wasn’t ready for the amount of belly laughs that it brought on. ?
I was lucky to be sent a link to watch digitally but I can imagine how impressive the beautiful landscape of the Scottish mountains would have been on a big screen – it is truly breath-taking.
The film, written by Ryan Hendrick & Clare Shepherd and directed by Ryan Hendrick, is based on the short film – “2 Strangers“, I already gave a synopsis of the film in the preview post but the short version is – 2 strangers stranded in the Scottish Highlands on trying to get to back to Glasgow in time for Christmas on one of the saddest days of their lives.
Here is the trailer….
My Thoughts
After seducing us with beautiful landscape shot of the Scottish Highlands, we are introduced to each of the main characters early on and shown as the day becomes one to remember for each of them, I sympathised with both Jen and Rob, the film, as they are both likeable characters.
Jen distracts herself with ‘Christmas’ so forces her Christmas cheer upon Rob and some of the others that they encounter at the hotel they ultimately end up staying in, some get irritated, as all the hustle and bustle of Christmas is exactly what they are escaping, each having their own problems and issues.
Other guests such as the hilarious duo, Ernie (Sylvester McCoy) & Frank (Frazer Hines) add the the comedy alongside the hotel manager, Sid (Sanjeev Kohli) bring some fun and frolics amid what could be quite a depressing situation.
Over the space of 2 days, Jen and Rob are dealing with everything from car theft, navigating with a compass, nudging cupid’s arrow on a young couple and discovering the kindness of the human spirit all this whilst their heads are reeling with their own freshly brought on issues.
I have to admit, the car scene is one that I had to watch over and over again, as it was just played perfectly and had me in fits of laughter!
I liked all the characters, they were well-rounded, each with their own story and quirks. I especially liked Anna (Clare Grogan) who had me shedding some sad tears at one point. Her character brought a different dimension to the film, a bit more depth.
If you’re looking for a Christmas film with a lot of laughs and some romance, then you can’t go wrong with this film!
