Review: The Personal History of David Copperfield Film – in UK Cinemas – Friday 24th January 2020

The Personal History of David Copperfield

This film is a breath of fresh air!

A fun filled adaptation of this Charles Dickens classic, directed by Armando Iannucci really is worth watching.

I was so lucky to see this film at the BFI London Film Festival last year and have been itching for it to come out in the UK cinemas, so that I can enjoy it with my family and friends.

One of the stand-out features of this film is the diverse casting – which I eagerly applaud, the casting of Dev Patel as the main character of David Copperfield is absolutely brilliant, especially when you realise that his mother and father are both of different ethnicities.

Dev Patel as David Copperfield

Whether or not you’re a Dickens‘ fan or haven’t even read the book or if like me, you feel like you’ve seen too many adaptations, this one is a real stand out.

A tale of class, and ambition this is definitely one of my favourite novels from the talented author.

The story is told via both action and narration, the acting is superb and the story starts from the moment of David’s birth and we follow him through his childhood and watch him grow into a young man – from boy to gentleman. Take a look at the trailer…

This film is hilarious, so be prepared to laugh out loud and don’t choke on your popcorn!
