If you see any film this month – Make it this one!
You won’t go far wrong with this coming of age drama that really shows how your world can be shattered in moments, how circumstances can show another side of ourselves that we may not even realise exists and end up reacting in ways that we would never dream… but, I won’t get too deep ?
I was lucky enough to see this film at the BFI London Film Festival last year and it is THE film that I keep thinking about and telling everyone about!
It is a coming of age drama about a teenage boy, Tyler Williams (Kelvin Harrison JR) living with his father, Roland Williams (Sterling K Brown) sister, Emily Williams (Taylor Russell) and step-mum, Catherine Williams (Renee Elise Goldsberry) whilst grieving the recent loss of his real mother.
Tyler is on the high school wrestling team and is juggling the usual teen pressure of parental expectations, girl problems, school work & exam pressure alongside missing his deceased mother and staying strong for his younger sister, Emily, with which he has a close bond.
His father is very close to him and supports him with everything, although a little strict, he loves his family and wants nothing but the best for them.
Events in Tyler’s life slowly start to unravel and quickly escalate, like Waves everything gets out of control, but the beauty of this film is that it gives you a conclusion… and then some more…
I absolutely loved it, the acting is superb and the soundtrack is amazing – definitely worth a download!

WAVES hits UK Cinemas on Friday 17th January 2020 .
Enjoy!
