The BFI London Film Festival is the UK’s most prestigious film festival and I was lucky enough to be invited to attend the BFI London Film Festival Launch event on 31st August.Β I have to admit that this festival definitely has something to satisfy everyone’s taste.
This year’s programme will feature 28 World Premieres, 9 International Premieres and 34 European Premieres, with many A-List Actors, Directors and other big industry names in attendance.
The 2017 programme includes a range of features;
- 46 Documentaries
- 6 Animations
- 14 Archive restorations
- 16 Artists’ Moving Image Features
- 128 Short Films

- Short Films and Features from 67 Countries will be shown at this year’s festival
- Each evening includes a Headline Gala Presentation at Odeon Leicester Square
- There are 11 strands of films being shown, these are – Competition – Love Strand – Debate Strand – Laugh Strand –Β Dare StrandΒ – Thrill StrandΒ – Cult StrandΒ – Journey StrandΒ – Family Strand.
- Create Strand – is a new strand introduced this year, to showcase London as one of the world’s leading creative cities.
- The 820 seat Embankment Garden Cinema is back, after a successful launch in 2016.
- The LFF Connects will give audiences an opportunity to hear some of the world’s creative leaders speak, big names include; Nitin Sawhney, Ian McEwan and Cate Blanchett and many more.
- BFI London Film Festival is one of the very few film festivals to be staged in a production capital city.
- The festival encourages the exchange of ideas and debate on how filmmaking reflects society, as well as the debate on current social and political issues – talking points this year include; LGBT, Black Star, Immigration & Social Division, Strong Women and Deafness and disability, amongst other issues.
- 61 Woman Directors are represented across the feature section – 25% of the whole programme.
- Tickets are available individually, as family tickets with special Β£5 Rush Tickets are available for the under 25’s.
