At last! A theatre show that we can see IRL (In Real Life) for those who don’t know 😉
Yes, not allowing for the dreadful virus to interrupt the theatre industry, any more than it already, the clever team at Caspa Productions have put together an immersive football themed theatre production performed at a football stadium – Dagenham & Redbridge F.C to be precise.
You should have seen the beam across my face, when I initially read the email with an opportunity to attend an event that wasn’t online/digital, and had obviously been thought through with social distancing and other government safety guidelines in mind.
To say i’m excited to review my first show in 7 months, is an understatement.
Written and Co-Directed by Michelle Payne, this show is about a group of female school leavers, who after being inspired by the success of The Lionesses (England Ladies Football Team), decide to set up their own 5-a-side team in their local town, Dagenham.
The play tells the story of their highs and lows, struggles and triumphs and everything inbetween.
Take a look at the trailer…
The exciting part for me is the Diversity style dance battles, it’s been a long time since I’ve seen a live choreographed performance and as a professional choreographer, my first love is always probably going to be dance ❤
Apparently, the audience pick a side, meet the squad then cheer on the team as they battle it out on the pitch, sounds like a right laugh!
The cast is made up of Essex based actors and performing arts graduates. Some of the cast have recently been in the fantastic musical, Six. All roles have been double-cast, alongside 4 swing performers to cover any instances where a cast member needs to isolate, so the show will not be impacted and need to cancel.
This production is benefiting both the arts and sports industries, mid-pandemic, I am happy to support this show for these reasons alone – but it does also sound great, so grab a ticket and look forward to an evening of footie and dance – just in time for the start of the Premiere League too.
A review will be uploaded as soon as I’ve seen it.
