Here is the promised review for this film, which I previewed last month, if you missed it have a read here.
As I stated before, Alison Steadman and Dave Johns are in the top 10 of my favourite actors, so I HAD to see this film.
Alison Steadman is an actress that I have loved watching in many TV programmes from the hilarious comedy that is Gavin and Stacey to the more recent BBC Drama Life.
Dave Johns, I’ve not known for as long, but was introduced to him back in 2016 when he he starred in I, Daniel Blake.
Here’s the trailer, in case you missed it last time or need a recap…
My Thoughts
One of the first things you’ll notice is that this film has a very small cast, this is not a problem, as the 2 leading actors easily carry the film.
It is refreshing to see older characters find new love, as it seems that most films are concerned with the ‘coming of age‘ teen genre or the settling down – or at least hoping to settle down quest of the thirty-something, before it’s too late.
We witness the initial meeting, which to be honest, couldn’t have been any worse, Fern (Alison Steadman) is irritated by Dave (Dave Johns) and his big dog and we watch on as Dave’s friendly nature cracks the icy layer of Fern and it so heart-warming to see their friendship develop.
But as most love stories, the path does not run smooth, but there are quite a few laughs along the way, and of course as we age, we all come with ‘baggage’ or a ‘past’ which may effect our future relationships.
Can they work things out between them? Are they destined to be?
Grab a copy of the DVD or Download it – it’s a perfect Valentine’s Day film!
Enjoy!
